KRON 4 News recently highlighted a press release from Jonny Tran of BugPro Termite warning homeowners that a record drywood termite swarming season is on the horizon. From October through December 2025, weather conditions are expected to create the perfect storm for infestations.
Drywood termites are silent destroyers, capable of hollowing out wooden beams, rafters, and walls long before homeowners realize what’s happening. Key warning signs include swarmers (winged termites), piles of frass (sawdust-like waste), bubbling wood, and hollow sounds when tapping on beams. Ignoring these red flags can turn into $30,000–$50,000 in repair costs.
Fumigation penetrates deep into hidden galleries, wiping out colonies where they hide. The process takes three days and is tightly regulated, requiring licensed professionals, proper aeration, and air quality certification before re-entry.
Fumigation is an essential tool. Without fumigation or severe restrictions, our communities would face:
- Public health risks from unchecked cockroaches, bed bugs, and rodents.
- Threats to affordable housing include untreated houses and apartments falling into disrepair.
- Economic harm, jeopardizing 100,000 real estate transactions annually and undermining jobs, many of them Latino-owned family businesses.
As Tran noted, vigilance this fall is critical. But vigilance without effective tools is useless.
Protecting homes, safeguarding families, and maintaining affordable housing requires decisions grounded in sound science.
Professional fumigation is a basic necessity for public health and housing security.
