Preserving the Right of All Californians to Live Pest-Free

Professional fumigation is the only proven way to eliminate termites, protect buildings from damage, and safeguard the public from cockroaches, bed bugs, and other pests. However, severely restricting or eliminating professional fumigation can lead to a wide range of dire unintended consequences for millions of Californians. It can put vulnerable populations at risk, undermine affordable housing goals, and threaten jobs and the state economy.

FUMIGATION PROCESS

State-licensed professional pest control operators are the only ones able to fumigate.

The process currently takes 3 days, which allows for tenting, fumigating, aeration and removal of tents once air has been tested to ensure safety before certification of re-entry.

The process requires tenants and residents vacate a property; this can result in inconvenience and costs to them.

REAL ESTATE

Fumigation is critical and essential to maintaining safe homes and buildings for Californians.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

Fumigation is the best way to protect people from unsanitary and unhealthy living conditions. This should be considered a basic human right that does not depend on socio-economic status.

IMPORTS/EXPORTS

Not only does fumigation provide many livable wage jobs within the industry, it supports a wide range of employment that depends on fumigation.

AMERICAN DREAM

70% of fumigation companies are owned by Latino families. For decades, immigrants and low-income fumigation workers have not only been able to support their families, but also attain the American Dream of owning their own businesses through hard work.
